The meteorological forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) confirms that the sky in the northern half of the Valencian Community, including Valencia and Castellón, will be clear at the time of the total solar eclipse. The bulletin issued on Monday morning shows an absence of clouds at 8 PM, offering a fairly reliable prediction just over 48 hours before the event.
José Ángel Núñez, head of Climatology at Aemet in the Valencian Community, had already anticipated on Friday that the visibility of the eclipse "will be good" in most of the region. However, cloudiness is expected in the southern half, mainly high clouds that should not obstruct the view of the Sun, as it will be very low at the time of totality. Aemet points out that high clouds "allow for the observation of the eclipse" in most cases. To the west of the southern part of the province of Valencia, medium clouds could appear, complicating the view.
Other factors to consider are temperatures and fire risk. Maximum temperatures are forecast up to 36 degrees inland and 32-33 on the coast, with a risk of heatstroke in the sun-exposed observation areas. Temperatures are expected to have dropped by two to five degrees compared to the maximums at the time of the eclipse. The fire risk is considered "very high or extreme" throughout the province of Castellón and in the interior of Valencia, key areas for viewing.
A statistical study published by Aemet in May analyzes the frequency of cloudiness on the Iberian Peninsula during the eclipse dates based on the last 16 years. On the coast and pre-coast of the Valencian Community, the probability of little or clear cloudiness ranges between 50% and 65%. In the interior of Castellón, it drops to 30-50%, while in many coastal areas it rises to 80%, offering optimism based on historical data.
