The renovation works for the pedestrian crossings on Avenida de la Constitución in Villena, which began last Monday, will extend beyond the Moros y Cristianos festivities. During the work, a more severe deterioration than initially expected has been observed.
According to the Councilor for Works, Javier Martínez, a temporary solution using concrete is being applied to ensure the suitability of the crossings for pedestrians, festival participants, and horses during the events. This provisional measure will guarantee safety during the parades.
Once the celebrations conclude, a comprehensive intervention will be carried out on all four pedestrian crossings on the avenue. These elements show significant wear due to continuous use by vehicular traffic.
Martínez indicated that the intention was to complete the work before the festivities to prevent incidents, but the situation necessitated a contingency solution. The current structure of the crossings, made of cobblestones, might be replaced with asphalt alternatives, which are more resistant to the heavy traffic on this main thoroughfare.
The councilor recalled that the majority of the cost for the comprehensive repair will be borne by the construction company, as the work falls within the warranty period.
