The refurbishment of this service, which began operations in 2012, aims to increase the current 1,500 members by improving its rooms and adding new weight training equipment and other sports activity elements. The mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, highlighted the investment, describing the facility as “top-tier, with excellent features”.
The Councilor for Sports, Maite Gandía, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the department's philosophy that “investing in sport is investing in health,” and noted that the center offers activities for all levels, tastes, and ages.
Enrique Ballester, head of Local Sports Centers Management, along with the managing company's CEO, David Sánchez, stated, “Today marks a leap in quality with the launch of these new rooms and their machinery.” The goal is to “enhance the user experience,” which involved modifying the rooms and their technical flooring, renovating the indoor cycling studio with top-tier stationary bikes, and upgrading the 250-square-meter gym area with state-of-the-art machinery.
The investment has funded the renewal of lighting and over 200m² of flooring in the group activity rooms. Specifically, 120m² were replaced in the first room and 93m² in the second, now featuring 9mm thick non-slip rubber flooring. The fitness room floor has also been updated with different surfaces for each work zone: 128m² of 22mm thick flooring for the free weight area, 144m² of 7mm for cardiovascular machines, and 30m² with a turf grass finish for the stretching zone.
The new equipment includes twenty cardio machines (treadmills, upright bikes, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, a stair climber, rowing machines, and a variable step machine), ten selectorized machines, five plate-loaded weight machines, and seventeen indoor cycling bikes. Benches, racks, Olympic plates, bars, and dumbbells for free weight training have also been added. The renovation also encompassed the center's sauna room.
