The Mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, has formalized the reception of the facilities of the former Las Carmelitas school, putting an end to a bureaucratic problem that had dragged on for two decades. The Governing team is already studying possible uses for this space, which has a built area of 554.64 m² and 485.10 m² of usable space.
Cerdán highlighted that "with this signature, we are solving a problem that has been going around for almost 20 years. In its day, things were not done correctly, and the property passed from one investment fund to another until we set to work to rescue this space and dedicate it to public use." The mayor announced that "generating new facilities means improving services for our citizens."
The agreement was made possible thanks to the willingness of the last owner and the work of the municipal legal services and the urban planning department.
The signing of the deed ends a legal and ownership conflict of almost twenty years, which has been resolved once the last owner company acquired the property. The situation originated from a land rezoning agreement to allow residential use on a dotational space, in exchange for the ground floor premises being ceded to the City Council. This operation did not materialize after the company entered bankruptcy proceedings, without the urbanistic cession being registered. From then on, the administrative and legal process became complicated with successive changes of ownership.
