Intense electrical activity associated with storm cells has generated fires in vegetation areas in Culla, Tírig, and Vall d’Alba. The Generalitat, through BombersDipcas and Bomberos Forestales, along with volunteers, is working to extinguish these fires, which are complicated by adverse weather conditions such as strong winds and heavy rains.
In Culla, the possible lightning strike may have started a fire for which air and ground resources were mobilized. In Tírig, two vegetation fires have broken out in the same municipal area, requiring a global operation including units from BombersDipcas, Bomberos Forestales, air assets, and forest coordinators.
Weather conditions, including strong winds exceeding 80 km/h and torrential rains, are hindering firefighting efforts, forcing the temporary withdrawal of air resources. Additionally, a fourth fire has been declared in Vall d’Alba, where units from the Diputación and Bomberos Forestales are also operating.
A fifth fire has been reported in the Serra d’en Galceran, in La Plana Alta, possibly caused by a lightning strike. The affected area is less than a kilometer from the urban center. The storm in this region was marked by a warm, dry downburst, with temperatures of 33 ºC and wind gusts over 70 km/h.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) maintains warnings for storms and precipitation in the northern interior of Castellón, warning of the possibility of hail and very strong wind gusts. Emergency services remind the public of the importance of reporting any smoke column or fire detected in the mountains to 112.
The rainfall has left significant accumulations in the provincial interior, with records such as 26 l/m² in Castellfort and 17.8 l/m² in La Pobla de Bellestar.
