The Culla City Council has carried out a restoration project at the Sant Cristòfol hermitage to address conservation issues and ensure its stability, with a budget of 172,833.98 euros funded by the Generalitat Valenciana via the Pla Restaura.

The intervention addressed accumulated deterioration affecting various elements of the property, restoring its structural integrity and preserving its historical and architectural values. Key pathologies identified included leaks from the roof, causing significant damp stains, plaster detachment, and damage to wall paintings and vaults.
Cracks were identified in the facade, arches, and various interior points. On the south elevation, fissures extended from the upper part of the building, affecting the stone lintels above the access door and the choir window. The choir's vault showed significant cracks and deformations, posing an imminent risk of collapse, exacerbated by an old concrete layer that had increased its weight.
The project involved the careful dismantling of the roof, selecting and reusing sound tiles, and inspecting the wooden structure. Deteriorated beams were repaired or replaced, and a new waterproofing system was installed. Metal tie rods were also added to counteract vault thrusts, wall fissures were repaired with lime mortar and fiberglass rods, and damaged lintels were reinforced.
The work also covered the vaults, choir, walls, and the adjacent old hospice, addressing the various pathologies comprehensively. The restoration followed heritage conservation principles, respecting the monument's authenticity and historical appearance, using compatible materials like wood, ceramic, and lime mortar.
Through this initiative, Culla reinforces its commitment to protecting and recovering local architectural heritage, preserving the Sant Cristòfol hermitage for future generations.
