As is customary each summer, the Alcoy City Council facilitated access to the El Salt Paleolithic site on Sunday, August 9th. This cultural initiative, part of the '10 Excursions Around Alcoy' program, promoted by the Camilo Visedo Municipal Archaeological Museum and the Center for Historical and Archaeological Studies of Alcoy (CAEHA), generated so much interest that all available spots were sold out before the scheduled date.
During the visit, the research directors and professors from the University of La Laguna, Cristo Hernández and Carolina Mallol, guided the attendees. They detailed the latest advancements from the fieldwork, supported by the Alcoy City Council, which provides logistical support and disseminates knowledge through the Archaeological Museum, where the most significant findings are preserved.

The site, operational since 1986, is crucial for studying Neanderthal communities in the western Mediterranean. Occupations dating back 60,000 years have revealed remains of organized camps with hearths, flint tools, and dietary evidence. Its exceptional preservation has even allowed for the identification of human fecal biomarkers and fossilized excrement (coprolites), as well as dental remains of a young Neanderthal individual.
