The construction of the new Artistic Gymnastics Pavilion in Alcoy has reached a decisive stage with the commencement of roof installation. This new phase allows for a clearer appreciation of the sports facility's dimensions, located in the city's North Zone, near the Official School of Languages.
The roof structure for the main space rests on pillars and metal trusses, designed to span the entire width of the pavilion without intermediate pillars in the sports area. It incorporates rock wool thermal insulation and an aluminum exterior finish to ensure optimal conditions for sports practice.
The rectangular building will measure approximately 45 meters in length and 23 meters in width, with a maximum height of ten meters. The interior space dedicated to sports activities will be around 22 by 44 meters.
The Councilor for Sports, Alberto Belda, highlighted that the roof installation is one of the most visible advancements, allowing for an understanding of the facility's scale. He emphasized that the space is specifically designed for artistic gymnastics and tailored to the needs of local athletes.
Spanning over 1,200 square meters, the pavilion will include, in addition to the sports area, changing rooms, accessible restrooms, storage spaces, and circulation areas. The plot's existing slope will be utilized to integrate some of these services below ground level.
The facility will be equipped to house the apparatus for both men's and women's artistic gymnastics, and will feature two training pits. This will enable it to host daily activities for local clubs as well as training camps and competitions at various levels.
The works, which began in September 2025, were awarded to the company Tenada Nueva SL for 1,131,228.38 euros (VAT included). The project has undergone various technical and economic revisions, and two tender procedures after the initial call was declared void.
Belda underscored the technical complexity of the project, which required significant coordination between the company, the site management, and municipal services, aiming to ensure quality and meet the expectations of the gymnastics community.
Artistic gymnastics has a long-standing tradition in Alcoy, with notable athletes such as Néstor Abad, Laura Casabuena, and Maia Llácer. The new pavilion aims to improve training conditions and foster new generations of gymnasts.
The councilor concluded that the city possesses talent and a dedicated fanbase, and this new facility, commensurate with the effort invested, will help promote grassroots sports and enhance the city's profile through sporting activities.
