The proposal that the municipal government will submit to a vote establishes Saturday, April 24, and Monday, April 26, as holidays. This configuration would allow Sunday, April 25, the day of the Saint George festival, to be integrated into the holiday period, thus facilitating the Moors and Christians Fiestas to take place during the weekend.
This new distribution comes after a dialogue process with the city's social and economic agents. The mayor explained that this option responds to the general interest and seeks maximum citizen participation in the festive events, avoiding the need for key days such as the 'Entrada' or the 'Alardo' to be working days.
The CES, a consultative body created in 2013, has historically defended the convenience of holding the festivities on a weekend to reconcile tradition with local economic activity. The final agreement must be reached before July 31 to comply with the deadlines of the competent Conselleria.
