The exhibition, dedicated to the figure of Francesc Almela i Vives, recognized as Writer of the Year 2026, is part of the Alcoy Modernista Week program. It can be visited at the Mario Silvestre Cultural Center until September 24th.
The exhibition, which reviews the life and work of this intellectual born in Vinaròs in 1901, consists of twelve panels created by the studio Espirelius. Almela i Vives cultivated various literary genres such as poetry, theater, essay, and journalism, in addition to dedicating himself to historical research, eventually being appointed official chronicler of Valencia in 1963.
The official inauguration will take place on Thursday, September 17th, at 12:30 PM. The opening hours for the public will be Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
This initiative aims to contextualize a period of Valencian cultural effervescence, connecting with the spirit of the Modernista Fair. Almela i Vives's career also included a significant role in cultural recovery and participation in the Normes de Castelló of 1932.
The councilor for Linguistic Normalization, Teresa Sanjuán, has positively valued the collaboration with the AVL, highlighting the importance of these links for cultural dissemination. For his part, the linguistic technician of the Alcoy City Council, Adrià Jaén Cuenca, has underlined the relevance of Almela i Vives's historical work, especially his role as the first official of the Valencia City Council responsible for overseeing the use of Valencian.
The exhibition's objective is to vindicate Valencian as a language of creation and to introduce the figure of a fundamental author for the modernization of literature.
