The Alcoy City Council has scheduled a new activity within the Citizen Science Workshops, focusing on insects and other invertebrates. This initiative, born from the Participatory Budgets, will take place on Friday, September 18th, titled "Insects at Night: Nocturnal Butterflies and Other Small Creatures." The event will commence at 8:00 PM at the entrance of the Font Roja Natura building.
The activity, led by ornithologist and environmental educator Pep Cantó, is aimed at families. Attendees are requested to bring their own dinner, flashlights, and mosquito repellent. Registration is mandatory and will open on Monday, September 14th, via the Llum Ambiental website, free of charge until capacity is reached.
Previous events in this series, held in the spring, were highly successful. On May 17th, a practical session on aquatic biodiversity was conducted at the Parc dels Tubs, and on May 30th, an insect safari took place from the start of the Via Verda to the Racó de Sant Bonaventura.
The educational cycle will continue through the autumn with new proposals. On October 3rd, there will be a practical workshop on building insect hotels. On October 17th, a session on illustrated albums will aim to introduce insects to the public through reading and art. Finally, on October 19th, a round table discussion at the Fundació Mútua Levante will focus on the pine processionary caterpillar.

Additionally, Alcoy will host an exhibition from the Waste Management Facilities Valorization and Disposal Project of the Consorci A2. The exhibition will be available on Monday, September 14th, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the corner of the Alzamora shopping center and Regiment Biscaia street. On Wednesday, September 30th, during the same hours, it will be set up at the street market in the Zona Nord. An environmental education team will guide the visit.
