The General Director of IVASS, María José Rico, emphasized during the closing of Alcoy's Mental Health Week the "importance of proximity care to respond to the real needs of people with mental illness and their families." The activities of this week, held since October 10th for World Mental Health Day, brought together entities, professionals, and users from the l'Alcoià region.
The event, held in Plaça d'Espanya, included the reading of a manifesto and a march through the city streets to raise awareness about mental health and promote social sensitization. María José Rico stressed the need to create participation spaces and offer care that fosters autonomy, social participation, and the development of life projects for people with mental illness, maintaining their family, social, and community ties.
The Specific Center for Chronic Mental Patients (CEEM) Mossèn Cirilo, managed by IVASS in Alcoy, has 40 places and offers comprehensive care and psychosocial rehabilitation programs. This resource supports users in their recovery, autonomy, and community integration process.
Mental health care in the Valencian Community is developed within the framework of the Valencian Plan for Mental Health and Addictions 2024-2027, which includes nine strategic lines and 84 priority actions based on a community and recovery model.
