The city of Alcoi has announced two artistic competitions to mark the upcoming Annual European Funds Event in November. The photography contest 'Gazes that Transform Alcoi' invites residents across Spain to capture European projects within the city, while the school contest 'Europe Draws Alcoi' is aimed at 5th-grade Primary Education students from local schools.
The photography competition allows entries as collections of four images or individual photographs, accepting various techniques such as digital photography or photomontage, but excluding works generated by artificial intelligence. The submission deadline is October 30, 2026, and works can be submitted in person at IVAM CADA ALCOI.
Regarding the photography contest prizes, there will be an Honorary Award for the best collection (1,000 euros), prizes for individual collections (500, 300, and 200 euros), and prizes for individual photographs (250, 150, and 100 euros), along with ten individual work acquisitions at 50 euros each. Selected works will be exhibited at the Rodes Urban Technology Park from November 12 to December 31.
The school contest 'Europe Draws Alcoi' aims for young students to depict how the European Union's collaboration improves the city, covering themes such as sustainable mobility and nature protection. Participation will be channeled through educational institutions, with prizes in kind for the best works and an award for the winning class.
Among the projects funded by European funds in Alcoi are the renovation of the southern access, the creation of the Camilo Sesto Museum and the Municipal Art Gallery, as well as improvements in urban mobility.
The mayor, Toni Francés, emphasized that these initiatives aim to bring knowledge of European funds closer to citizens through participation. He encouraged everyone to participate and share their personal perspective on Alcoi.
The verdict for the photography contest will be announced on November 5. The exhibition opening and award ceremony for both contests will take place on November 12 at the Rodes Urban Technology Park, coinciding with an open house event and a fair of European projects.
