The town of L'Alcora is already experiencing the pre-event atmosphere for one of its most significant cultural events: the Al-Qura Medieval Days, scheduled from November 13th to 15th. As a prelude, the Pre Al-Qura cycle offers an extensive program spanning September, October, and November.
The initiative kicked off on September 25th with the lecture '13th Century Fashion: A Tailor's Perspective', delivered by Paca Valls at the Ceramics Museum. The program will continue with workshops, historical dissemination, music, cinema, and exhibitions.
Starting October 1st, the Bancaixa Halls will host a sewing workshop, which will run in multiple sessions until early November. On October 6th, a dance workshop will also commence, designed to introduce participants to aspects of medieval reenactment and ambiance.
Historical dissemination will feature prominently on October 8th with a lecture by Vicent Baydal, titled ‘A New Vision of the Conquest of the Kingdom of Valencia: James I and the Lament’, to be held at 7:00 PM in the Ceramics Museum.
Regarding music, on October 23rd, Amour Courtois will present a performance at the Gothic Hall at 10:00 PM, exploring the dialogue between jazz, improvisation, and medieval music.
In November, on Friday the 6th, the short film ‘The Price of Peace’ will premiere at 8:00 PM in the Caixa Rural Auditorium. The following day, Saturday the 7th, the Ceramics Museum will host the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Camino del Cid’ and the presentation of the book ‘Ibéricas’, by Ángela Vicario.
The Pre Al-Qura cycle will culminate on Friday, November 13th, with a visit to the encampment of Ximén d’Urrea in the Town Hall Square, marking the official start of the Medieval Days.
Through this initiative, L'Alcora aims to extend the Medieval Days experience beyond the main weekend, offering various ways to connect with history over several weeks, from clothing and dance to music, research, cinema, and literature. The involvement of residents, associations, and collectives continues to be a hallmark of this event.
