The Ministry of Health has launched the new child and adolescent mental health center Casa Sant Pere, located in Mutxamel, which is now providing outpatient care to children and adolescents from the Alicante-Sant Joan d’Alacant Health Department.

This new center consolidates specialized care, community intervention, and early detection services, previously operating between the El Cabo Health Center and the Sant Joan d’Alacant University Hospital. Grouping these resources in one location facilitates professional coordination and promotes continuity of care for minors and their families, addressing their health, educational, and social needs.
The facilities are staffed by 22 professionals: five Psychiatry specialists, eight Psychology professionals, four nurses, two nursing assistants, one social worker, and two residents. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit is responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of mental disorders in minors, in coordination with other health, educational, and social resources. The Community Child and Adolescent Team assists minors with more complex mental health issues, and the Early Detection Unit conducts prevention and early identification activities in collaboration with educational centers.
Casa Sant Pere is located at Arquitecte Antoni Gaudí street, number 21, in Mutxamel, with an entrance on Pintor Mariano Fortuny street. It offers parking and is accessible via bus line 38A. A second public transport line is also planned to facilitate access from other municipalities such as Sant Joan d’Alacant and El Campello. The relocation of the teams has been organized progressively throughout October.
The building, municipally owned, was transferred to the Ministry of Health by the Mutxamel City Council in July 2025. The property, historically linked to the Alicante pediatrician Pedro Herrero Rubio, comprises two blocks and an old farmhouse, with over 1,000 square meters built and a plot of 10,620 square meters.
During 2025, the department's child and adolescent mental health services attended 2,299 children and adolescents, of whom 1,347 were male and 952 female.
