The 'La mirada oblícua' conversation series at the Alicante Institute of Culture Juan Gil-Albert continues with a new session taking place tomorrow at Casa Bardin. The event will feature journalists José Miguel López and Martín Llade, who will discuss the music of composers such as John Cage and Arvo Pärt.
Under the title ‘John Cage y Arvo Pärt. Música sin límites’ (John Cage and Arvo Pärt. Music without limits), the Radio 3 and Radio Clásica professionals will examine the creativity, originality, and intellectual coherence of these composers. The session, moderated by Joaquín Manresa, will also explore the connections between their ideas and influences on renowned artists from both the past century and the present day.
José Miguel López, a respected radio music journalist, achieved over 11,000 broadcasts of his program Discópolis on Radio 3. He recently published the book 'Antes de Discópolis (+ Nuevas Músicas)', a compilation of articles and chronicles contextualizing his early career in print journalism, including interviews with figures like Caballé, Halffter, and John Cage, among others.
Martín Llade, a journalist and music enthusiast, has been directing the program 'Sinfonía de la mañana' on RNE Clásica for a decade, receiving a Premio Ondas in 2016. Since 2018, he has broadcast the Vienna New Year's Concert for RTVE. His latest novel, 'El último concierto de Viena' (The Last Concert in Vienna), explores the relationship between the Nazis and classical music.
The cycle, which began in March, will continue in October with a new session focused on Franz Kafka. This upcoming event will feature literary scholar and academic José María Pozuelo Yvancos and writer Marta Sanz, who will discuss the search for truth.
