A total of 30 unemployed young people aged 16 to 30 are participating in Alicante's 'Impulsajoven' Workshop School, receiving one year of paid training in high-demand trades.

A total of 30 students from the 'Impulsajoven' Workshop School are undertaking paid vocational training for one year at the facilities of the 'Impulsalicante' Local Development Agency, in collaboration with Labora. The activity allows them to acquire knowledge in gardening, masonry and painting, and cooking – trades with high demand in the labor market – with practical experience in improving municipal infrastructure and facilities.
The first edition of the Workshop School, which began on March 1st and will run until February 28th, 2027, is subsidized by Labora with 743,481 euros. The Alicante City Council, through Impulsalicante, has divided the participants into three groups of ten students per specialty.
Mayor Luis Barcala has highlighted the importance of offering professional opportunities to unemployed young people, while the Councilor for Employment and Development, Mari Carmen de España, who heads Impulsalicante, has emphasized the focus on trades with high demand in sectors such as construction and hospitality.
The workshop schools, subsidized by Labora and the Generalitat, combine three months of theoretical training in municipal centers with subsequent hiring as Impulsalicante employees. The projects last twelve months (1,920 hours) and aim for the acquisition of complete Professional Certificates.
These apprentices carry out renovation and improvement work in green areas, municipal buildings, and facilities, as well as in care centers. The tasks include improving municipal departments, squares, schools, senior centers, and public spaces, in addition to adapting garden areas and training centers.
They also collaborate with schools on dining services. Councilor De España announced that work is already underway for the next call in 2027, with a project valued at nearly 800,000 euros. Additionally, seven people have joined the council from Labora programs for women and youth, and staff with intellectual disabilities are expected to join.
