The Alicante City Council and more than 200 hospitality establishments have joined the Green Flags Movement, an initiative by Ecovidrio that rewards sustainable waste management during the tourist season.

The city aims to maintain the recognition obtained in 2024, when it achieved the Green Flag after registering a volume of 6,726 tons of collected glass. That milestone placed the Alicante capital as the second in the country with the highest growth in selective collection, with an increase of 6%.
The council has requested the collaboration of the Horeca sector to increase the reuse and recycling of containers during the summer months. According to last year's data, each citizen of Alicante deposited an average of 18.7 kilos of glass in the 1,547 containers distributed throughout the city.
At the provincial level, Alicante led selective collection in the Comunitat Valenciana with 23.3 kilos per inhabitant. This year, the city competes with 28 other Valencian municipalities to reinforce the sustainability of a material that allows for infinite recycling without losing quality.
