The Alicante City Council has approved the draft project for the redevelopment of Plaza de la Muntanyeta, an initiative linked to the new concession of the underground parking. The agreement, reached in the Local Government Board, allows for the launch of the tender for the exploitation rights of the parking facility. Two of the five public exhibition allegations have been accepted, concerning the maintenance of the cycle path and the addition of bollards and benches in the children's play area.
Three other proposals regarding mobility have been rejected, as technicians believe they will be analyzed when interested companies submit the final parking project, according to vice-mayor Manuel Villar. The approved draft project, developed by A-Ingenia Research and Consulting SL, includes improvements to the parking and the exterior space valued at 2.5 million euros.
The planned works include modernizing the parking facilities, redistributing spaces for greater amplitude, and improving pedestrian access to the Hacienda delegation and the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Gracia. A single-level pavement will also be created to facilitate transit towards Ángel Lozano street, along with a children's play area, a new green zone, and renovations to the pergola and skylight. Furthermore, pre-installation for the Social Nativity Scene during Christmas is included.
Urban Mobility Councilor Carlos de Juan highlighted that "we are advancing the process to tender this project." He recalled that the parking facility, which will revert to the City Council, is in good condition but requires intervention for pavement renewal, waterproofing, lighting, and accessibility, given its intensive use with around 30,000 monthly entries.
Parking spaces will be enlarged to accommodate current vehicle sizes. The works also involve improving waterproofing to prevent leaks originating from the plaza's condition. The skylight will be renovated, and the dispensers will be moved to the southern end. The possibility of installing a catering kiosk is also being considered.
The City Council initially approved the draft project in May and submitted it for public information. The economic-financial study was also definitively approved, establishing an exploitation fee estimated at 8,553,529 euros for the next 15 years of the concession.
