The University of Alicante (UA) commemorates Financial Education Day 2026 this Monday, October 5th, with an event highlighting the importance of economic training.

The main event will consist of the presentation of the first edition of the Financial Education Awards, EDUFIN-UA, and will feature expert speakers emphasizing the importance of acquiring basic knowledge about personal economics and finance from an early age.
The event will take place at 6 PM in the auditorium of the Germán Bernácer building. The ceremony will be presided over by the UA Rector, Amparo Navarro, accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Transfer, Entrepreneurship, and Scientific Dissemination, María Jesús Pastor; the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Administration, José Antonio Rovira; the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences, Mª Carmen Tolosa; the Director of the Bank of Spain in Alicante, Pedro Sánchez Abad; and the member of the Governing Board of the College of Economists of Alicante, Iván Poveda Quiles.
During the event, the prizes for the EDUFIN-UA contest will be awarded. This contest challenged participants to create a video between 1 and 3 minutes long, answering a financial question. For this first edition, the challenge was: “What is money? From bartering to cryptocurrencies”. A total of 32 videos were submitted, involving 145 students. Additionally, the challenge for the next academic year will be announced.
María Jesús Pastor highlighted that "one of the tasks we must undertake as a university is the social transfer of knowledge, disseminating and bringing knowledge closer to citizens in general, and especially to younger generations, contributing to building a better-educated, more informed society with a greater capacity to face future challenges".
The Vice-Rector emphasized "the importance of acquiring basic knowledge about personal economics and finance from an early age and of fostering the interest of younger generations in understanding the financial world, promoting a proactive and critical attitude towards issues that inevitably affect their present and future lives".
This initiative is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, as well as the Bank of Spain and the College of Economists of Alicante.
