The work, contracted urgently with a budget of 7,260 euros, is being carried out by the specialized company Podas Elche. The intervention includes reducing the canopy, decreasing the volume of the trees, and removing plant debris.
The Councilor for Environment, Rubén Millán, explained that finding a specialized company was challenging due to full schedules in the sector, but they ultimately selected one with "extensive experience and a shorter execution time".
The work is expected to continue until early next week, keeping the cordoned-off areas of La Glorieta closed until safety conditions for pedestrian traffic are guaranteed.
This intervention follows several branch falls in recent weeks, which led to the temporary closure of the area. The ficus trees have weaker anchor points due to previous severe pruning and relocations.
This marks the third specific intervention on these trees in recent years, in addition to regular maintenance. Specialists also recommend annual training work to foster proper tree development and minimize potential issues.
