The program will kick off on October 15th at the Casa de Cultura with the presentation of the book Indignas hijas de su patria. This work, the result of historical research, analyzes the role of the Patronato de Protección a la Mujer and the forms of social control exerted over women and young people during the Franco regime. The authors will participate in the event to detail their research process.
The following day, October 16th, the focus will be on cinema with the screening of the film La invasión de los bárbaros. Two sessions are planned: one in the morning for students of the IES Enric Valor and another open to the general public in the afternoon. The session will conclude with a discussion with the film's director.
The Councilor for Democratic Memory of the Monòver City Council, Júlia Tortosa Corbí, has highlighted the importance of bringing these activities closer to citizens, especially new generations. "Democratic memory is a fundamental tool for understanding our history and the consequences that repression and lack of freedom had on many people," stated Tortosa, adding that "with this program, we aim to recover stories that have been silenced for too long and create spaces for us to learn about them and reflect on them".
Tortosa also emphasized the significance of student participation: "It is particularly important that young people can engage with our recent history in a close and participatory way. Democratic memory is not just about looking at the past, but also about transmitting knowledge and values to new generations".
The councilor remarked that "culture, research, and cinema are powerful instruments for recovering memory and opening spaces for dialogue" and invited citizens to participate in the activities.
Through this initiative, Monòver reinforces its commitment to Democratic Memory, offering various avenues for engaging with recent history through research, literature, and cinema, with proposals aimed at both the general public and younger generations.
