The councilor for Linguistic Normalization, Lourdes Abad, has presented a new cultural proposal: the screening of L’àvia i el foraster. This cinematic production in Valencian will allow audiences to enjoy cinema while simultaneously reflecting on coexistence, friendship, and cultural diversity.
The event will take place on Thursday, September 18th, at 7:30 PM, in the Román Torregrosa hall of the Casa de Cultura. Through this initiative, the department aims for "citizens to discover that Valencian is also a language of cinema, stories, emotions, and leisure," as stated by its head. Lourdes Abad highlighted the value of a production that addresses "values such as friendship, coexistence, and diversity, which are part of our society." She also emphasized that cinema is "an especially attractive tool for bringing Valencian closer to citizens, particularly the younger generations."
L’àvia i el foraster tells the story of a seamstress from a town who forms a friendship with the Pakistani man who runs the local greengrocer's. Through this relationship, the film explores issues such as prejudice, intercultural coexistence, and people's capacity to find common ground beyond differences in origin or culture.
With this activity, the Department of Linguistic Normalization seeks to raise awareness of the possibilities of cinema in Valencian and promote the language's presence in leisure and culture. It is an event open to all citizens that combines entertainment with linguistic and social awareness.
