The works, included in the ‘Elda parte de ti’ plan and financed with European Funds, have transformed the old town to create, together with the Plaza de Arriba, a 4,200 square meter space. This new area features new trees, LED lighting, urban furniture, seating areas, a chilled water dispenser, and a fountain with jets for children's enjoyment.
The mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, highlighted that this intervention "will mark a before and after in the future of our city," reviving a Historic Center that was "dying." He congratulated the Public Space and Investments department for the planning and execution of the project, which culminates a significant work impacting over 15,000 square meters of the old town.
Alfaro recalled that, through the Plan Elda Parte de Ti, spaces such as Plaza de Arriba, Plaza Joan Miró, the Castle surroundings, streets like Nueva, Colón, and Ortega y Gasset, Plaza Conchi Gran, and the Santa Ana area have been renovated. He emphasized the government's "bravery" in undertaking an urban reform of this magnitude in an archaeological zone.
The redevelopment has connected the Santa Ana area with Plaza de Arriba. Large trees have been planted, accessibility improved, a chilled water fountain and a manually operated water fountain for children have been installed, along with a pergola over 60 m² and LED lighting, in addition to renewing the rainwater network.
This project is linked to the new public and free parking lot at Emérito Maestre, with 160 spaces, currently under construction nearby. The mayor described these actions as evidence of a "city model" at the service of its citizens.
The foundations of the old church have been marked on the pavement, and work is underway with the Conselleria de Cultura to highlight other archaeological findings.
