The Elda City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare and the IMSSE, has launched the program ‘Elda Acompaña’, an initiative to address unwanted loneliness among the city's elderly population.

The main objective of the program is to create a network of volunteers who offer socio-emotional support, conversation, and companionship to combat isolation and unwanted loneliness among the elderly.
The councilor for the area, David Guardiola, highlighted the importance of creating this intergenerational volunteering program to promote emotional well-being and social cohesion. The initiative aims to go beyond traditional 'welfare' approaches, fostering a space for intergenerational encounters.
Guardiola recalled that seniors can contribute collective memory and reflection to young people and other volunteers, who in turn bring vitality. The program promotes community life through daily companionship, home visits, healthy walks, and participation in creative workshops and leisure activities organized by the City Council.
No specialized training is required for volunteers, but the Department will provide basic training on accompaniment tasks, communication tools, first aid, and handling of elderly individuals.
The key to the program is the volunteers' commitment to contribute at least one hour per week to help reconnect seniors with the community and bring back their smiles.
Interested individuals can contact the Severo Ochoa Social Center or fill out the online form.
On October 28th, at 10:00 AM, an initial presentation meeting will take place at the Civic and Youth Center. The training will be held on October 30th and November 6th and 13th, also at the Civic and Youth Center, totaling 6 hours of instruction divided into five theoretical-practical modules.
