Entrance of the Cova de l'Or in a Mediterranean mountain setting.

The archaeological site of Cova de l'Or, located in the municipality of Beniarrés, has announced the temporary closure of its cultural activities to avoid the effects of summer heat.

The measure, which will last until September 12, has been coordinated by the Fundación CV MARQ and the local town council. During this period of inactivity for the public, the annual excavation campaign will be carried out, focusing on searching for new evidence of Neolithic art on the cave walls.
The site, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest), is located at an altitude of 675 meters in the Benicadell mountain range. This space is a fundamental reference for the study of the Neolithic period on the Mediterranean coast, as it preserves remains of the first communities that introduced agriculture and livestock farming in these valleys during the 6th millennium BC.
The site museum features a linear route of approximately 65 meters that allows visitors to explore the interior of the cave. Usually, the visit includes a stop at the Interpretation Center and a bus service to the start of the trail leading to the cave, a service that will resume once the closure period ends.
