This Wednesday, August 19th, at 9 PM, Sagunt's Alameda will host a unique spectacle featuring a massive dragon weighing 1,500 kilos, standing 6 meters tall, and measuring 12 meters long. The beast will roam the streets of this Valencian municipality, breathing fire while four humans try to control it, playing at being gods. Beneath its enormous body, actors Santi Martínez, Víctor Segarra, Juanan Lucena, and Segi Heredia, directed by Heredia himself, will bring the show 'Quimera' by the company La Fam to life.
Transported from Vila-real to Sagunt, this large articulated puppet, constructed from iron, wood, and leather, reflects on human power versus the beast. Director Heredia explains that the show's origin lies in 'Aquiles,' premiered in 2021, which also explored the relationship between humans and animals.
The company La Fam questions whether humans can dominate the animal without losing control. The challenge lies in mastering the puppet's complex mechanized structures and creating a space where 'Quimera' can breathe fire. Around twenty people are involved in the production, from construction to music, to equip the dragon with the necessary technology.
Heredia acknowledges that 'Quimera' is a striking spectacle that may not appeal to everyone, but he invites the public to join for as long as they wish. The show transforms the streets, with the company using music, the size of their 'fantastic beings,' and materials to forge a connection with the audience through their craftsmanship.
