The Pedro y Nohemí Parejo Martínez Foundation has awarded six study grants this week to students from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) who are at risk of social exclusion. Three of the grants are for 1,800 euros and the other three for 900 euros each. This initiative is part of the sixth Program of Actions with the Social Council, in collaboration with the Vice-Rectorate for Planning and Social Responsibility of the University.
The main objective of these grants is to support students enrolled in degrees at the UMH who have limited financial resources or are undergoing processes to mitigate their risk of social exclusion. They aim to help cover expenses related to academic training, recognizing the students' excellence and empowerment, and ultimately facilitating their inclusion and/or retention at the university. This support is part of the collaborative patronage of the Pedro y Nohemí Parejo Martínez Foundation of the Comunitat Valenciana with the UMH.
In this edition, the six grants have been awarded to students belonging to the degrees of Social and Legal Sciences, and Health Sciences. The award ceremony took place in the auditorium of the Social Council of the UMH.
Representatives from the UMH attended the event, including the president of the Social Council, Joaquín Pérez Vázquez; the Vice-Rector for Planning and Social Responsibility, Domingo Orozco; the president of the Commission for Relations with Society, Antonio Gonzálvez; and the Secretary-Director of the Social Council, José María Gómez Gras. Representing the Pedro y Nohemí Parejo Martínez Foundation were its president, Francisco Hipólito Soro Bernal, the secretary, Javier Gonzálvez, and the board member, Francisco Manuel Gonzálvez.
These grants are linked to the inclusive actions and equal opportunities of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan, and to the #CompromisioSocialUMH policies. They align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
