The XXXI Dama d’Elx Theatre Showcase returns to the Gran Teatre stage from September 13th to 26th. This edition will feature 11 productions from theatre companies in the city, gathering daily from 8:00 PM onwards. The closing ceremony will include the guest company Carpe Diem Teatro from Tomelloso (Ciudad Real) and their acclaimed play ‘La habitación del niño’ by Josep María Benet i Jornet.
This local theatre showcase, organized by the Culture Department in collaboration with La Plataforma de teatre amateur de Elche, aims to provide local companies with opportunities to perform at the Gran Teatre and highlight the diversity of styles and themes among them.
The councilor for the area, Irene Ruíz, described the Showcase as an "automonic benchmark for amateur theatre" and one of the few festivals programmed entirely by local companies. She stated that "we are starting the cultural year with this Showcase, one of the most defining manifestations of our identity, which is amateur theatre," and thanked the Platform for their work.
The showcase offers a wide variety of styles. The musical tragicomedy ‘Los reyes mendigos’ by Príapa Teatro will kick off the event. Comedy takes center stage with companies like La Tarántula, Teatro de las Naciones, Joven Trupe, Cadillac teatro, Calandraca, and Soy Artista. Bomba teatro participates for the first time with a version of the musical ‘Cabaret’.
Drama will be represented by the theatre schools Somnis teatro and Siete Glorias-Espai Escènic, and the association Noktumbra Teatro with a text by José Juan Pérez Macià. The closing on Saturday the 26th will feature the drama-suspense play ‘La Habitación del niño’ by Carpe Diem Teatro, which has received numerous national awards, followed by the presentation of recognitions to the participating groups.
The president of the Amateur Theatre Platform, Fernando Blaya, highlighted the varied programming and the talent present both on stage and in the texts, noting the debut of Bomba teatro.
