Elche's local government is promoting the transformation of the 'Les Palmeres de Les Xiquetes i els Xiquets d’Elx' space into 'Parque Europa', an intelligent Mediterranean park spanning 32,000 square meters.

The area, located next to the Vinalopó Hospital and previously in a state of disrepair, will be named 'Parque Europa'. The project, commissioned to the engineering firm Ingardi for 38,720 euros, aims to convert the 32,000 square meters into an intelligent Mediterranean park. Ingardi was also responsible for consolidating the Elche campus of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH).
In addition to this major undertaking, which seeks to provide an open space for citizens to stroll and enjoy, the company has also managed other minor works on the same campus, such as directing new internal roads and creating parking areas.
The engineering and architecture firm has integrated energy efficiency and sustainability elements into the project, which aims to secure European funds through the Urban Initiative Europe call. This initiative can finance up to 80% of the investment, estimated at a maximum of 2.5 million euros. Aigües d'Elx will also collaborate regarding water implications.
The future park will include a small lake, a 3,700 square meter amphitheater area, wide walkways, water features, shaded areas, and children's play zones. The programming of cultural and recreational activities is planned, as well as the installation of cafes. It will incorporate innovative water management solutions, sustainable drainage systems, permeable surfaces, multifunctional water features, smart irrigation, environmental and water sensors, and vegetation adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
The resolution of the European call is expected in October. Construction is slated to begin in March 2027, two months before local elections. The first step is the project submission by the firm, which had a five-month deadline and was formalized in April.
