The Elche City Council, through its mixed company Aigües d’Elx, has launched the municipality's first storm tank on Avenida San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This strategic action, part of the Rainwater Plan, involved an investment of 1.2 million euros.
With a capacity of 1 million liters, this rainwater retention tank will store excess flow during abundant rainfall, thus preventing overflows in the sanitation system, especially on Avenida San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the coastal area.
The objective is to solve the pluviometric problems of Arenales del Sol and, at the same time, promote the reuse of regenerated water. After rainfall, the stored water will be pumped to the Arenales Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) for treatment and subsequent use in maintaining the artificial ponds of Clot de Galvany and for agricultural purposes.
In addition to the hydraulic improvement, the intervention has also included the installation of a calisthenics area on the upper part, creating a new space for sports practice in the district.
