The installation of the zinc upper cladding for the roof of the Elche Central Market is nearly finished. Meanwhile, the internal metal structure for the stalls is complete, awaiting its upper slab. Inside the building, brickwork has begun to divide the different stalls. Soon, a fire-retardant treatment will be applied to the structure for protection and safety. Additionally, plumbing and sanitation installations will commence in the coming days.
In parallel, archaeological work continues in the Arab baths, focusing on the hypocaust area, a cavity through which hot air circulated for heating. This project, with an investment of 8.8 million euros, aims to create an open market integrated with the historic center's surroundings.
Over recent months, progress has also been made in the redevelopment of the Central Market's environment. At Plaza Menéndez Pelayo, the trees have been renewed and the pavement replaced. Work now continues in Plaza de las Flores, with the goal of standardizing the paving and improving the integration of both areas.
The project involves the renovation of approximately 3,500 square meters between the building and its surroundings, with a total investment of 8.8 million euros. The future Central Market will feature 24 traditional retail stalls, each around 15 square meters, along with gastronomic and dining spaces.
