The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche has launched the second edition of the #VoluntariadoDeportivoUMH program, offering the university community opportunities to participate in sports and health promotion activities.

This initiative, which began in late 2025, aims to sustain university participation in sports events, strengthen collaboration with organizing entities, and foster the acquisition of transversal skills through practical volunteering experiences.
The program is integrated into the voluntariado.umh.es platform and is structured into four lines of action: UMH #TalentoEnMovimiento (university competitions), #ProyectaDeporte (collaboration in external events), #UMHsaludABLE (promotion of health and healthy habits), and #IncluyeDeporteUMH (inclusion of people with disabilities).
The second edition initially includes eight sports events to be held between November 2026 and May 2027. The calendar features the XLII School and Popular Cross (November 8), the 25K x 25N Women's Race (November 25), and the II Elche-Alicante International Marathon (December 13). For 2027, planned activities include The Ocean Race (January 8-17), the XV Subida al Racó de la Morera (January 10), the 54th Elche Half Marathon (April 11), the IV Women's Cycling Challenge #TalentoEnMovimiento (April 24), and the Elche Night Race (May 15).
The collaboration of university volunteers is particularly relevant for the II Elche-Alicante International Marathon. Participation allows university community members to gain organizational experience, develop transversal skills, and foster teamwork. Depending on the university collective and applicable conditions, it may lead to official participation certification, recognition of transversal skills credits for students after accumulating a minimum of ten hours, and consideration in annual performance evaluations for staff.
Registration in the volunteer pool signifies an interest in receiving information about events. Interested individuals can complete the registration form, preferably before October 30, to facilitate the coordination of volunteer needs for upcoming events.
Through this initiative, UMH continues to promote the active participation of its university community and collaboration with local sports entities, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 17 (Partnerships).
