The Orihuela Tourism Department is consolidating its presence at Alicante Gastronomic 2026, an event scheduled from October 2nd to 5th at the IFA exhibition center. The primary goal is to promote the municipality's gastronomic wealth, its local products, and Orihuela's identity as a tourist destination.
The Councilor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, presented the participation alongside José Antonio López from Restaurante Pico del Águila, and Álvaro Tortosa from Cerveza Segura, the companies responsible for bringing Orihuela's flavors to the fair. Montoya emphasized the event's importance in showcasing the local gastronomy and the elements that define the municipality.
One of the main novelties this year is the new stand, described as a "completely renewed, much more visual, creative, and transgressive" proposal. The design centers on local produce, using black as a contrast to the vibrant colors of seasonal fruits and vegetables from the Orihuela huerta.
A notable feature will be a large chair made from natural fruits and vegetables, designed as a photocall for visitors to take photos. The word "Orihuela," also adorned with natural produce, will reinforce the space's identity, along with photographic vinyls.
The stand will include a backdrop panel with a quote from the Orihuelan poet Miguel Hernández, integrating the municipality's cultural and literary dimension. "Orihuela's identity cannot be explained solely through gastronomy; our culture, history, and literature are also present," stated Montoya.
As a new addition, a tourist information point will be available to assist visitors and provide information about Orihuela's heritage, culture, gastronomy, and its offerings as a destination.
During the fair, Restaurante Pico del Águila and Cerveza Segura will offer tastings of local dishes and products such as the traditional 'caldo con pelotas', marinated and grilled artichokes, 'escalivada', and pumpkin and artichoke fritters. Cerveza Segura will complement the offerings with various beer varieties.
Orihuela's participation in Alicante Gastronomic aims to showcase the variety of its produce, traditional cuisine, and local producers' offerings, connecting gastronomy, tourism, culture, and identity.
