The Orihuela City Council has put out to tender works to improve accessibility and road safety around the Miguel Hernández CEIP, with a budget of 59,968.63 euros.

The Infrastructure Department has initiated the process to improve pedestrian routes and facilitate movement for students, families, and residents of the area. The actions will primarily focus on Oriolanos Ausentes street, from the Vega Avenue roundabout to IES Thader, as well as interventions in Huerta, Pintor Fernando Fenoll, and La Encina streets, near the school.
The school environment experiences high pedestrian traffic, especially during school entry and exit times. Sidewalks are deteriorated, and pedestrian crossings do not meet adequate accessibility standards, along with other elements that hinder transit.
The works include the demolition and reconstruction of pedestrian crossings and driveways to adapt them to current regulations, the installation of tactile paving for signaling and warning for visually impaired individuals, and the repair of sidewalks and curbs. Unevenness and obstacles will also be eliminated, and telecommunication poles and other vertical elements will be relocated or removed.
Tree pits will be conditioned, and damage caused by tree roots, which have led to pavement uplift and deformation, will be repaired, particularly on La Encina and Pintor Fernando Fenoll streets. The project also includes the removal of a flowerbed and a palm tree stump, followed by paving.
The objective is to achieve more accessible, continuous, and safer pedestrian routes, eliminating architectural barriers and reducing the risk of falls and trips. The base tender budget is 49,560.85 euros, plus VAT, totaling 59,968.63 euros. The planned execution period is twelve weeks.
