The city of Orihuela will celebrate next Sunday, October 18th, the tenth edition of the Race and March for the Fight Against Breast Cancer, under the slogan ‘Run for Me, Orihuela’. This solidarity event has established itself as one of the sporting events with the highest participation in the municipality.
The mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, presented the initiative alongside the Councilor for Health, Irene Celdrán; the Councilor for Sports, Víctor Sigüenza; the president of the Tragamillas Athletics Club, Paco Belmonte; the president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Orihuela, Conchi Martínez Bravo, and the director of Caja Rural Central, Gemma Fernández.
The event will start at 10:00 AM, with the start from Avenida de España and the finish at Avenida de Teodomiro, next to Glorieta Gabriel Miró. The day includes a five-kilometer race and a walking march, with an entry donation of 10 euros for the fight against cancer.
The Councilor for Health, Irene Celdrán, highlighted the importance of reaching this tenth edition, emphasizing ten years of enthusiasm, work, and effort, and above all, of accompanying and helping many people.
Celdrán encouraged residents of Orihuela, its districts, and the entire Vega Baja region to join the event, running and walking for those going through difficult times, as companionship makes the ordeal more bearable.
The president of the Tragamillas Athletics Club, Paco Belmonte, recalled that the club joined in the third edition and that nearly 150,000 euros have been raised, including the virtual edition in 2020. He highlighted the usual participation of between 2,500 and 2,800 people.
The competitive race will have a limit of 600 runners for organizational reasons, while the march will have no limit and will be open to all ages. Children's t-shirts will also be available for families.
Registrations can be made online through the Tragamillas Club website or in person at the headquarters of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Orihuela, located in the Ociopía Shopping Center, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Online registrations will be open until Friday, October 16th, at noon. Bib collection will take place on Saturday, October 17th, at La Lonja, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Paco Belmonte thanked the public's support, comparing participants to 'empty wagons' that fill the route with solidarity. He also recalled that the initiative received the Fortius Award for Sports Event of the Year.
The president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Orihuela, Conchi Martínez Bravo, thanked the participants and the collaborating companies and entities, hoping for a large turnout at the Glorieta.
