Torrevieja Approves Project for New Heated Swimming Pool

The sports facility will have a tender budget of over 5.5 million euros and an execution period of 18 months.

The Local Government Board of Torrevieja City Council has greenlit the project for the construction of a new heated swimming pool in the Sports City, located behind the Sports Palace.

The new sports infrastructure, representing a step forward in improving municipal facilities, will have a tender budget of €5,533,669.03 (VAT included) and a planned execution period of 18 months. The Councilor for Sports, Diana Box Alonso, detailed that the pool will feature a tank measuring 25 meters long by 12.50 meters wide, suitable for warm-up and aquatic activities.
The building will be spread over two floors: one above ground and one below. The ground floor will include the reception, the pool tank, three changing rooms (female, male, and mixed/family), restrooms, indoor stands, and distributors. The basement floor will house the service gallery, plant rooms, compensation tank, storage, and a distributor.
The design aims for integration with the existing spaces in the Sports City. The changing rooms will be equipped with sinks, toilets, urinals, showers, lockers, benches, and hooks. The facility will include spectator stands and a direct connection to the existing indoor pool in the Sports Palace, enhancing the joint functionality of both installations.
For better integration, the project includes reorganizing the outdoor space with new green areas, adapting the existing parking lot, and creating a bicycle parking zone. The construction will ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility and will adhere to the N.I.D.E. standards from the Superior Sports Council.
Regarding energy efficiency, the pool will use a centralized high-efficiency system with two main heat pumps for domestic hot water and pool heating, maintaining the water temperature between 25 °C and 28 °C. An independent dehumidification unit with heat recovery will be installed.
Additionally, a photovoltaic solar plant of approximately 13 kW on the roof will generate electricity for self-consumption. Renewable sources are expected to cover at least 70% of the annual energy demand for hot water and pool heating, promoting sustainable management and reducing CO₂ emissions.
