The initiative, which has a subsidy of 206,000 euros from the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE), funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), aims to improve urban mobility and strengthen the connection between sports, educational, and residential facilities.
The project includes the creation of new cycle lane sections, improvements to existing ones, and the installation of parking spots for bicycles and scooters. The first section, 1,450 meters long, will be built on Delfina Viudes Avenue, featuring a bidirectional cycle lane on the existing sidewalk, including accessible ramps.
A second section of 620 meters on the roadway will offer a segregated bidirectional cycle lane with recycled rubber separators, connecting to Cortes Valencianas Avenue, where a cycle crossing with electronic signaling will be installed.
The longest section, 1,250 meters, will be on La Mancha Avenue, proposing a cycle lane with separate directions on each side of the road, aiming to reduce the speed of motorized vehicles. Finally, 380 meters on Gabriela Mistral Street will adapt the school environment of the Ciudad del Mar school with traffic calming measures and cyclist and pedestrian priority.
The City Council anticipates that this new infrastructure will facilitate access to the Sports City and the school without private vehicles, promoting the use of bicycles and scooters. An annual energy saving of 50.88 tons of oil equivalent and a reduction of 183,943.3 kilograms of CO2 are estimated.
