The Sports Department of the Orihuela City Council has presented the competition, which will bring together 16 teams previously qualified from the provinces of Alicante, Valencia, and Castellón. The Councilor for Sports, Víctor Sigüenza, and the president of the Club Petanca Orihuela, Paco Muñoz, detailed the aspects of the event.
Sigüenza highlighted the long tradition of petanque in the municipality and the Vega Baja region, emphasizing the importance of preserving this traditional sport that offers physical activity and fosters community. He particularly encouraged young people to engage with this discipline.
The City Council will provide shaded areas to ensure the comfort of players and spectators given the high temperatures expected in July. Neighbors have also been invited to attend and support the participants and the local club.
For his part, Paco Muñoz explained that the Club Petanca Orihuela will have one participating triplet team and recalled that the top three finishers will qualify for the Spanish Championship. He dispelled the notion that petanque is exclusively for older individuals, pointing out the existence of youth and women's competitions with prominent young players in the province of Alicante.
Muñoz invited the public to enjoy the sporting event and the sense of community, announcing that the club will offer a canteen service throughout the day and thanking the Orihuela City Council for their support.
