The Low Festival has premiered its new home in Torrevieja this Friday, marking the debut of the town in Vega Baja as host after fourteen editions held in Benidorm. The move, motivated by economic disagreements between the organization and the Benidorm City Council, has involved an investment of three and a half million euros by Producciones Baltimore. Initial public impressions at the venue suggest the city has successfully overcome its first logistical challenge.
One of the main concerns was access logistics, but consulted attendees highlighted the smooth arrival and proximity of parking. María Jesús, who traveled from Alicante, commented: "We arrived very easily, which surprised us because we thought there would be a lot of queues, and then we parked very close by." Others, like Susana and Javier from Bilbao, stayed in a tourist apartment and walked to the venue, noting the ease of finding accommodation. The festival has provided over 2,000 free parking spaces and shuttle buses from various points in the city.
The heat, typical of the Costa Blanca in July and August, was present, but attendees seem accustomed to it. "We're going to be very hot, that's clear," said María Jesús. The loyalty of the "lowers", veteran festival-goers who followed the event from Benidorm, remains despite the change. Jesús, who has attended for 14 years, lamented the forced move but acknowledged that the logistics in Torrevieja are "very different" and better integrated into the city.
The musical lineup, featuring artists like Fangoria, León Benavente, and Love of Lesbian, continues to be a major draw, especially for those who value the programming over the trend towards urban sounds at other festivals. "I've always liked Low a lot. I've always thought it's the festival [...] that has the best lineup," explained Pablo, an attendee.
The Low Festival announced its departure from Benidorm last November after the agreement for the use of the venue was not renewed. The new location in Torrevieja hosts this new phase, running until August 2nd, with a lineup including artists such as Kasabian, The Hives, and Editors, among others. Initial impressions point to a high pass mark for Torrevieja in its debut as host.
