The Local Government Board of Torrevieja has approved the award for the drafting of the project and subsequent supervision of works for the integral repair of the Green Way. The contracted company is UTE Cuatroteca, which will operate on the 6,700 meters of this important pedestrian and cycling route. The contract amounts to 77,129.55 euros, including VAT, of which 51,419.70 euros are for project drafting and 25,709.85 euros for work supervision and Health and Safety coordination.
UTE Cuatroteca will have two months to complete the project drafting, which will detail the necessary actions for the recovery and improvement of the route. The Green Way, which utilizes the old railway track of the Albatera-Torrevieja line, is a key route connecting the city with its natural surroundings, used for walking, sports, and cycling.
The route begins at kilometer 0, near the Salt Museum, and heads towards Acequión beach, skirting the Pink Lagoon of Torrevieja until it reaches the CV-945 road, at kilometer 6.7. In the initial kilometers, the path is divided into an asphalted area for bicycles and a paved area for pedestrians. From kilometer 3.4 onwards, the path becomes a single compacted dirt track, passing through a reed area that serves as a natural barrier and refuge for fauna.
The future intervention's main objective is to ensure more comfortable and safer circulation for non-motorized users, improving public space and urban landscape. The project must integrate environmental and sustainability criteria, as well as adapt to the different uses of the route. Special attention will be paid to environmental integration due to the route's proximity to areas of high natural value, such as the Natural Park of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja.
The technical documentation will also analyze land ownership and potential impacts derived from the Natural Resources Management Plan of the park. These circumstances will be crucial for administrative processing and obtaining the necessary permits before the works commence. Today's award continues the procedure initiated in February 2024, when the Local Government Board approved the tender for project drafting and work supervision.
