Albatera's participation in Alicante Gastronómica, held from October 2nd to 5th at IFA in Torrellano, focuses this year on promoting the breva, a key product for the municipality's identity. Although out of season, the City Council and the Association of Breva Producers of Albatera are committed to promoting the product year-round.
The stand will recreate a traditional orchard from Albatera, featuring a mural illustrating fig trees, their branches, and brevas, thus connecting with the municipality's agricultural roots.
Contemporary and traditional gastronomy will play a significant role. Chef Aurora Torres, from Lula restaurant, will present a sweet creation based on her menu “De higos a brevas” on Saturday, October 3rd. Meanwhile, the Association of Housewives of Albatera will offer their well-known “plato ligero de Albatera” on Friday, October 2nd, showcasing traditional cuisine.
The Councilor for Tourism, Juan Manuel Cánovas, emphasized the importance of these events for the municipality's visibility, its culture, and its products. Mario Berná, president of the Association of Breva Producers, thanked the institutional support, including that of the Provincial Council of Alicante, for keeping the promotion of the breva and local agriculture alive.
This collaboration between producers and institutions will allow for increased presence of Albatera's breva at various fairs and promotional events, ensuring this crop remains known beyond its season.
